Tulum Mexico Mayan ruins in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Tulum Mexico is located 50 minutes South of Playa del Carmen. Tulum is a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city located on the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula directly on the coast of the Caribbean Sea.

Tulum Mexico was one of the last cities inhabited by the Mayan people. It was at its peak during the 13th and 15th centuries prior to the Spanish arriving. The Spanish settlers brought diseases the Mayans were unable to combat. It resulted in extremely high fatalities which caused major disruption to the Mayan people and culture. Tulum was eventually abandoned.

Today it is an extremely popular place for tourists as it is one of the best preserved Mayan sites. The official website of Tulum is here. You will most likely take a tour to Tulum from your hotel or through some other service. There are plenty to choose from.

While in the area I highly suggest checking out Coba, which has a Mayan Pyramid you can still climb. We enjoyed our trip to Tulum and know you will too. Unlike most travel bloggers that travel full time, we have to balance full time jobs, and elementary school age daughter. We definitely don't travel as much as we would like, but we think our situation is closer to what most travelers are in themselves.
Our family currently lives and loves the Austin, Texas area of the United States. We have lived in many states and even internationally.
